The question in computer portability has become, “Does computer portability really matter or is it more important to have a powerful workhorse computer that allows you to fit every piece of software and save as many files as will fit on your computing device?” Another matter may be whether the small sizes are more worthwhile or if the light-weight portability is the key issue. I think the availability of different types of portable computers these days lets us genuinely personalize our business machines into something that works for us and doesn’t have to be standard for all.
The production release of the cutting edge macbookair by Apple has really given us a choice with the size and weight and what kind of laptop computer we carry around with us when traveling. At less than 3 pounds and wafer thin, we don’t have to strain our muscles every time we travel. It has a 13 inch display and a full-size keyboard. Why wouldn’t I be interested? This is the very quality I have been needing.
When I first saw the youtube video for the MacBook Air with a slim, easy to transport computer coming out of that little envelope, small envelope, I was just in awe. Now, that’s the choice I’ve been looking for. Now it doesn’t have to be a major accomplishment to take my portable computer with me any longer! No extra bag that can weigh almost as much as the laptop, no more grimacing, no longer taking up more room than my suitcase! What a momentous occasion!
The frequently asked question of whether size is important is here now and my answer, when it comes to a miniature laptop is a reverberating, “yes, Yes, YES!” Size does matter as does weight. For me and my mobile computer smaller is certainly better.
